Introduction

Welcome to Suhuf! These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Suhuf ("we", "us", or "our") that governs your use of our platform. We've written this in plain language so it's easy to understand. By using Suhuf, you agree to these Terms.

Important: Suhuf is a platform that connects to the Nostr decentralized network. We provide the interface, but we don't control the underlying network or what other users post.

What Suhuf Is

Suhuf is a business directory and social platform that uses the Nostr protocol. Here's what that means:

  • Business Directory: You can browse business listings, read reviews, and connect with businesses.
  • Social Features: You can post public messages, reply to others, and send private encrypted messages.
  • Decentralized: Your identity (Nostr key pair) works across any Nostr-compatible platform—not just Suhuf.
  • Open Protocol: Messages you post may be relayed through independent servers (relays) around the world.

Who Can Use Suhuf

To use Suhuf, you must:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Have a Nostr key pair (public and private key), or create one using our login system
  • Agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy
  • Comply with all applicable laws in your jurisdiction

If you're using Suhuf on behalf of a business, you must have authority to act on behalf of that business.

Your Account and Identity

Nostr Keys

Suhuf uses Nostr cryptographic keys instead of traditional usernames and passwords:

  • Public Key: This is your identity on the platform—it's visible to everyone. It's like your username but more secure.
  • Private Key: This proves you own your public key. Never share your private key with anyone, including us. We never see or store your private key.

You are responsible for keeping your private key secure. If someone else gets access to your private key, they can impersonate you. We cannot recover lost private keys.

Account Security

  • Use a secure Nostr signer app or browser extension (like Amber, nos2x, or Alby)
  • Keep your private key backed up in a secure location
  • Log out when using shared or public computers
  • Report suspicious activity to us immediately

What You Can Do on Suhuf

Subject to these Terms, you may:

  • Browse business listings and reviews
  • Post public messages to the feed
  • Reply to other users' messages
  • Send private encrypted messages to other users
  • Claim and manage business listings (subject to verification)
  • Rate and review businesses
  • Customize your profile and privacy settings

Rules of Conduct

To keep Suhuf safe and useful for everyone, you agree NOT to:

Illegal Activities

  • Use Suhuf for any illegal purpose
  • Post content that violates Sharia law
  • Engage in fraud, scams, or deceptive practices
  • Sell illegal goods or services
  • Share content that exploits or harms children

Abuse and Harassment

  • Harass, threaten, or intimidate other users
  • Post haram speech targeting individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics
  • Doxx others (publish private information without consent)
  • Impersonate others with intent to deceive

Spam and Manipulation

  • Post spam or repetitive content
  • Use bots or automated tools without our permission
  • Manipulate ratings, reviews, or clout scores artificially
  • Create multiple accounts to evade restrictions
  • Post misleading business information or fake reviews

Security and Technical

  • Attempt to access other users' accounts or private keys
  • Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of our systems
  • Circumvent security measures or access controls
  • Interfere with the proper functioning of the platform
  • Upload malware, viruses, or malicious code

Business Listings

  • Claim a business you don't own or represent
  • Provide false or misleading business information
  • Use business listings to promote illegal activities
  • Create fake businesses or reviews

Clout Score and Reputation System

Suhuf uses a "clout score" system to prevent spam and reward genuine engagement:

  • Your clout score increases with daily logins and platform activity
  • Higher clout scores unlock additional features
  • Users can set clout thresholds for who can message them
  • Attempting to artificially inflate clout scores violates these Terms
  • We reserve the right to adjust clout scores if manipulation is detected

Content Ownership and Licensing

Your Content

You retain ownership of content you post on Suhuf. However:

  • Public Posts: When you post publicly, you grant us and other users a license to view, share, and display that content through the Nostr network.
  • Business Content: Business information you provide may be displayed publicly as part of our directory.
  • Private Messages: Private messages are encrypted end-to-end. We cannot read them and do not claim any rights to them.

Nostr Network

Remember: Public posts on Suhuf are broadcast to the Nostr network. This means:

  • Your public posts may appear on other Nostr clients and platforms
  • Relays may store your content indefinitely
  • Other users may repost or quote your content
  • Deleting a post from Suhuf does not guarantee deletion from all relays

Business Listings and Claims

Claiming a Business

To claim a business listing:

  • You must be the owner or authorized representative
  • You must provide accurate contact information
  • Your claim is subject to verification
  • We may require additional documentation to verify ownership

Business Responsibilities

If you claim a business, you agree to:

  • Keep business information accurate and up-to-date
  • Respond to customer reviews professionally
  • Not post fake reviews or manipulate ratings
  • Comply with all applicable business regulations
  • Not use the platform to mislead customers

Credits System

Businesses may purchase credits to promote their listings:

  • Credits are non-refundable except as required by law
  • Credits expire if not used within 12 months
  • We may adjust credit pricing with 30 days notice
  • Fraudulent credit purchases will result in account termination

Intellectual Property

Suhuf's IP

Suhuf and its associated logos, designs, and software are our property or licensed to us. You may not:

  • Copy or distribute our code without permission
  • Use our trademarks without authorization
  • Scrape or automatically collect data from our platform without permission
  • Create derivative works based on our platform

Third-Party IP

Respect others' intellectual property rights:

  • Don't post content you don't have rights to
  • Don't infringe on trademarks or copyrights
  • Report IP violations to us

Enforcement and Account Actions

Violations

If you violate these Terms, we may take action including:

  • Removing offending content
  • Suspending or terminating your access
  • Reducing your clout score
  • Reporting illegal activity to authorities

Notice

Where possible, we'll notify you of enforcement actions. However, we may act immediately in cases of:

  • Illegal content or activity
  • Security threats
  • Severe harassment
  • Platform abuse

If you believe your account was actioned in error, contact us at appeals@suhuf.co.

Disclaimers

Platform Provided "As Is"

Suhuf is provided without warranties of any kind:

  • We don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service
  • We don't endorse or verify all content posted by users
  • We don't guarantee the accuracy of business listings
  • We rely on third-party Nostr relays that we don't control

No Liability for User Content

We are not responsible for content posted by users. We act as a platform, not a publisher. Views expressed by users are their own.

Third-Party Services

We use third-party services (like Supabase for hosting). Their terms and availability may affect our service.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
  • Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the last 12 months (or £100 if you paid nothing)
  • We are not liable for losses due to unauthorized access to your account (protect your private key!)
  • We are not liable for content posted by other users

Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations, so they may not apply to you.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Suhuf and its operators from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

  • Your use of the platform
  • Content you post
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party rights

Dispute Resolution

Informal Resolution

If you have a dispute with us, please first contact us at disputes@suhuf.co. We'll try to resolve it informally.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Arbitration

Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be resolved through binding arbitration, not in court. The arbitration will be conducted by customary Islamic Afghan custom under their rules.

Class Action Waiver

You agree to resolve disputes on an individual basis. You waive any right to participate in class actions or class-wide arbitration.

Termination

By You

You can stop using Suhuf at any time. To delete your account and data, contact us.

By Us

We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or for any other reason with reasonable notice.

Effect of Termination

When your account is terminated:

  • We delete your data from our database (within 30 days)
  • Your public posts may remain on Nostr relays (outside our control)
  • Business claims may be transferred to new verified owners
  • Provisions that should survive termination (like liability limitations) do so

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make significant changes:

  • We'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
  • We'll notify users through the platform
  • Continued use after changes means you accept the new Terms
  • Material changes will have a 30-day notice period

Miscellaneous

  • Entire Agreement: These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding Suhuf.
  • Severability: If any part of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
  • Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right doesn't waive future enforcement.
  • Assignment: You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent. We may assign our rights.
  • Force Majeure: We're not liable for failures due to events beyond our reasonable control.
